Eupatorium maculatum commonly known as Gateway Joe-Pye Weed, is a perennial plant native to North America. It is a hardy plant that blooms profusely from midsummer to fall, with rose-purple to mauve flowers that are attractive to bees and butterflies. The plant is deer, rabbit, clay, and wet soil tolerant, and spreads quickly but is not invasive. Eupatorium maculatum is very useful and adaptable in the garden, making it an excellent choice as an accent plant, or for borders, cottage gardens, meadows, wild gardens, and rain gardens. It performs best in full sun to part shade and thrives in average, medium to wet soils. Fertile, humus-rich, moist soils are preferred.
