First developed in the Purdue University Horticultural Farm in 1982, the Enterprise Apple is a modern apple prized for its disease resistance and ease of growth. Counted among its parents are the Golden Delicious, Rome Beauty, McIntosh, and the Malus floribunda.
The apple is medium to large and very round- though it can be lopsided or lobed depending on where it grows in the tree. It has bright red, glossy skin with numerous lenticels that give the apple a polka-dotted appearance. The skin is rather thick and chewy further helping its resistance to disease- particularly to Apple Cedar Rust. Its flesh is yellow, medium grained (which means its juicy), and firm. More sweet than tart when eaten fresh but flavor peaks about 1 month into storage so the tartness has a chance to develop. Also an excellent baking apple. It ripens in September and early October and stores well. Very disease resistant. (Patented)
Rootstock: MM.111
Flowering group: 4*
Important Notice: Bare Root Fruit Tree Pickup
This is a bare root fruit tree. Trees will be 3/4– 1 1/4” caliper and pruned to 4’ in height. We expect these trees to arrive in late November or early December. Once they arrive, you will be promptly notified.
Please note: It is essential to pick up your tree within one week of arrival. We cannot hold bare root trees beyond this timeframe.
If you are unable to pick up your tree within this period, please notify us in advance.
*Flowering group indicates bloom period for cross-pollination. All the apple trees we carry will need cross pollination from another (different) apple tree. For best pollination, choose 2 or more trees that have the same Flowering group or an adjacent group. For example: Flowering group 3 tree can be pollinated by groups 2, 3 and 4
